Detectability of Optical Transients with Timescales of Subseconds

Abstract We search for optical transient sources with durations of ∼0.1 to ∼1.3 s using a data set obtained in the Organized Autotelescopes Serendipitous Event Survey (OASES) observation campaign. Since OASES observations were carried out two independent wide-field and high-cadence systems monitored same field simultaneously, provides unique opportunity develop robust detection method subsecond transients. In selected around ecliptic Galactic plane, we find no astronomical event candidate that satisfies our criteria. From nondetection result, derive an upper limit on rate transients plane first time, obtaining ∼0.090 ∼0.38 hr −1 deg −2 m = 12 13 Vmag, respectively. addition, future prospects subsecond-scale surveys are discussed.
